Mike’s mother was named Maureen. She committed suicide. The song is about Mike’s niece who died from a disease - explaining the child’s room setting in the video. I don’t know whose daughter she was. Terry’s or Sally’s. The song says she was just nineteen when she died.
I think the song still gets to Mike. His facial expression in the video says it all.

Wow, Im pretty young to be an Oldfield fan, but having an older first husband, he got me hooked.
So when it talks about him holding her hand through the midnight hour and catching her breathing, does that mean he was there when his mother died?? How did she kill herself and where? Am intruiged now. Sad but beautiful song. RIP Elizabeth Jane.
